As the Advocacy Lead with UNICEF Iraq, I successfully brought together multisectoral teams within the organization (WASH, Adolescent Development and Participation, Education, Child Protection, Gender) to develop a comprehensive Climate Action advocacy strategy. I also led the development of an Advocacy Results Framework – a detailed monitoring tool reflecting progress, with dedicated advocacy outcomes and interim results, SMART indicators and action plans.
The strategy heavily relied on empowering young Iraqis to speak up on what change needed to happen to protect their and the next generation. As a result of UNICEF’s advocacy efforts, a team of young people was included in the official Iraq Delegation to COP28 for the first time, and the Government of Iraq signed the Declaration on Children, Youth and Climate Action in November 2023.
